If you are looking a great local supplier of feed and other essentials to keep your flock happy and healthy we love CityChick.

The following items are a few things we find helpful on the farm. We do actually use these items but in full transparency, as an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. HEATING OPTIONS

Heat Lamp and Bulb (Cheapest option) Please make sure this lamp is secure. These can be a fire hazard if tipped over. We like chickens but love you WAY more so please be extra safe if you use these. We like the ceramic bulbs so the chicks are not under light 24/7 plus it comes with a thermometer so you can verify your brooder temp. You can otherwise still use a traditional heat bulb.

Heating Plate (Safer but more expensive). In our opinion the no roost top is worth the money unless you just enjoy scraping poop off things.

Chick Feeding, Watering, Bedding

We love to use a large box, throw some plastic down and cover with shavings. When you need to clean just bunch up the plastic and shake it out in the garden! Also, get the 1 gallon waterer, the others are just to small and run out quickly.

Adult Feeding & Watering

If you buy one thing on this list, get these drinker nipples. Believe us we have tried every kind of drinker you can imagine and it always gets gross! So we LOVE these horizontal drinkers screwed into a plastic bucket with a lid to keep things nice and tidy. (Don't forget a weep hole at the top to prevent a vacuum.

This scoop is super handy

There are probably better places to buy a bucket/lid but just wanted to show what I mean.

Coop Accessories

Our top pick from this section is for sure the exhaust fan. This thing has been a life saver during those SCORCHING summer days. It was super easy to set up and has a thermostat you can use to set the temp at which you want it to kick on.

An automatic coop door is sooo worth the money. If you are like us you will wake up in a cold sweat remembering you forgot to close the coop or are just to lazy to go open it on a cold rainy morning. No more! The models we use have since been discontinued but the below are the top rated based on our research.

If you want net to cover your run this stuff is expensive but trust us, you will regret going with the cheap stuff.

We use this net ALL the time when we need to catch that quick one that doesn't like getting picked up.

If you want to splurge, we sure have had a lot of fun with our coop cam. Its hilarious to see what the chickens are doing when your not watching and see epic battles over the prime roosting spots.

The Thermostat is handy to have

Medical

Just go ahead and say to order the blue wound spray. Someone WILL get hurt eventually and it helps to have it on hand and prevent pecking.

Corid works wonders for Coccidiosis which is a common issue in young birds caused several species of parasites. Corid works extremely well.

Cleaning

This scraper works wonders getting dried poop off the coop floor.

The food prep gloves are handy if you need to knock out a quick job and not get your hands nasty. I like the vinyl gloves for the heaver jobs and the leather gloves for the even heavier jobs.

You will encounter a lot of dander and fine dust when cleaning the coop so save your lungs and invest in a good respirator. These work WAY better than the little cup style masks.

Incubating

This flash light is AMAZING and NO joke you will likely be frightened when you click on the highest power 🙂 This would not disappoint as a fathers day gift. You will love this thing whether you need the best egg candler I have found or a just a bright light to look for raccoons on Mars.

If you want a smaller incubator we really like the Genesis 1588 and hear lots of people swear by the Nurture Right 360. The little cheap ones just aren't reliable. If course if you are looking for a big boy we use the GQF Sportsman.
